Prostate Cancer UK is aiming to do for male cancer awareness what pink ribbons and bake sales have done for breast cancer research. The cancer affects one in eight men over the course of their life, but a combination of factors, not least the intimate nature of the disease and men’s unwillingness to visit their GP regularly, have meant that it has long been ignored by the general public.
In order to combat this attitude, Prostate Cancer UK have created Men United, a movement designed to encourage men to come together and spread awareness. Celebrities such as Bill Bailey and Damian Lewis come on board as approachable ambassadors in order to normalise conversations about this form of cancer.
