Trio join the CG team at Absolute

Post-production studio, Absolute, has appointed three new talents within its rapidly growing CG team. Risto Puukko joins as FX supervisor, Patrick Keogh as CG supervisor and Musharaf ‘Rasel’ Hussain as junior CG artist. The department, spearheaded by Rebekah-King-Britton, has notably expanded this year, as the team continue produce extensive CG elements in collaboration with directors such as Gary Freedman, Otto Bathurst and Andreas Nilsson.

Risto originally discovered 3D back as an engineering student, when suddenly CG geometry in CAD software proved more interesting than his degree. He spent the next few years pursuing digital imagery opportunities in his hometown in Finland, before the lack of post-production companies saw him make a permanent move to London, landing a job as a Senior FX Artist. Since then, he’s worked at Framestore, The Mill and Wargaming to name a few, turning his hand to advertising and film projects.

He’s worked across campaigns for Netflix, Disney, Tesco and Vodafone, but his greatest career moment so far? “Getting the opening sequence on ‘Guardians of The Galaxy II’ finished on time!” Noted for his impeccable water FX, Risto looks forward to a return to utilising his full arsenal of FX techniques across Absolute’s commercial, film and TV departments.

Patrick’s introduction to moving image is a humble tale, involving his father, a flipbook, and his eightyear-old self, full of amazement. He joins Absolute following a four-year tenure at The Mill, and, much like Risto, he’s no stranger to the world of feature films, working as a Motion Capture Artist at Weta for five years prior.

He's worked with clients such as Amazon, PlayStation, Dior and Hyundai and lists working as a facial animator on 2014’s ‘Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes’ as a pinch-me moment. “It was the first time I’d been truly mesmerised by the realism and scope of the visual effects our team had created.” Patrick relishes the process of getting a project from the initial concept to the screen and says of his new role: “I can’t wait to meet the team properly and share different approaches to the way we work. I’m excited to diversify my knowledge through the people around me.”

Rasel’s interest in visual effects was ignited at a young age. Classic films like ‘Toy Story’, ‘Lord Of The Rings’ and ‘Jurassic Park’ sparked a want to create, and he initially secured a job as a Graphic Designer. However, visual effects was his calling, so he enrolled on a course at renowned visual effects outlet, Escape Studios. He later secured an internship at Framestore through their Launchpad competition, using Unreal Engine to create a 30 second short over eight weeks, before acquiring his first industry role at Absolute.

Rasel comments: “I love creating things and watching them come alive. This is a fantastic opportunity for me to learn from and work with some of the best minds in the industry. I feel really privileged to get this opportunity at Absolute, as I have always dreamed about working in this field.”

Head of CG, Rebekah King-Britton, concludes: “I’m delighted about our newest team members. The CG department at Absolute is really thriving and it’s great to be able to broaden our niche skillsets - as well as mentor the next generation of talent - with our new hires.”
