Joel Holtby is a Partner, Head of Art and Creative Director at Rethink. He's recognized as one of advertising's top creative talents, recently being named Ad Age Creative Director of the Year in 2020 and is regularly featured in the top 10 of Strategy Magazine’s Creative Report Card. Joel's known for consistently creating work that grabs global attention and being recognized at Cannes every year throughout his career - a streak that runs 10+ years.
As an agency leader, he's helped Rethink grow from 15 employees in Toronto to over 130 and helped to make Rethink into a national power house with a client roster that includes IKEA, WestJet, Molson Coors, Shaw, Scotiabank and Kraft Heinz. While at Rethink his involvement has lead to make the agency be named Ad Age's Creative Agency of the Year as well as Strategy's Agency of the Year, Digital Agency of Year (silver) and Design Agency of the Year 2 years in a row, the first of any agency to do so. While overseeing all art and design at Rethink, Joel's passion for fostering talent both within the agency and outside of it has helped creative teams to their first international awards and help grow the next generation of creatives through various educational talks.
Joel's work has earned more than 100+ international and national awards, including Cannes, One Show, LIA, D&AD and medal performance at every major show in the Western world, making thim one of the most accomplished and consistent award show performers in his country’s history. Most importantly, he's a dad to two wonderful little girls, June & Blair.
